IHSA Members to Compete for 2018 NRHA Collegiate Reining Championship at the NRHA Derby

FAIRFIELD, Conn,– June 26, 2018 – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby is an annual one-week event held in Oklahoma City, June 23-July 1. The competition showcases the world's best reining horses and riders and attracts thousands of spectators each year. One of the highlights of the Derby is the Collegiate Reining Championship scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, featuring the top college riders from North America.

UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY AWARDED THE AQHA TEAM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Harrisburg, Penn.—May 7, 2018—The final day of the 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Championship Horse Show featured the conclusion of the Western divisions. Young men and sparkle-clad women sat tall in the saddle to compete at the Pennsylvania Farm Complex in Harrisburg. The AQHA National Champion Team University of Findlay took home the trophy after a stunning victory over talented teams from across the country. Ohio State University was named reserve champion.

SKIDMORE COLLEGE WINS THE COLLEGIATE CUP

Harrisburg, Penn.—May 6, 2018—Competition Saturday at the 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Championship Horse Show included tiebreakers and exciting outcomes. The Skidmore Thoroughbreds maintained a lead throughout the show and finished with 30 points, earning them the right to take the Collegiate Cup home to Saratoga Springs. Reserve champions Savannah College of Art and Design were just two points behind and Stanford University was third with 22 points.

USEF/CACCHIONE CUP AND WESTERN DIVISIONS FEATURED SECOND DAY OF IHSA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Harrisburg, Penn.—May 4, 2018 —The 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Championship Horse Show resumed for the second day of action at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The first two phases of the coveted USEF/Cacchione Cup, the Equitation Over Fences and the Equitation on the Flat took place. The Western riders and horses also began competition, featuring AQHA Team Open Reining and Individual Open Western Horsemanship. All teams participated in the colorful Parade of Teams.

DISTINGUISHED JUDGES SET TO OFFICIATE IHSA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Fairfield, Conn.—April 30, 2018 —The 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) is set to kick off their National Championship in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, May 3-6. Young men and women from across the U.S. and Canada will descend upon the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex to represent their colleges and universities in hunter seat equitation and Western horsemanship in a range of levels from Walk-Trot through Open, alumni championships, the USEF/Cacchione Cup, the NRHA Individual Open Reining final and the AQHA Western High Point Rider national final. IHSA has assembled four highly-respected and experienced judges to officiate the event.

Fairfield, Conn. — April 23, 2018—The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) selected two members out of 22 applicants for the 2018 IHSA National Championship Candid Photography Internship. Lisa Giris and Madison Dempster will travel to Nationals May 3–6 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to capture the action behind the scenes. Each year the photography interns contribute images used in IHSA communications.

Smith College Equestrians Celebrate the Career of Sue Payne Longtime IHSA Coach Honored at Reception

Northampton, Mass. – Dec. 7, 2017 – The Smith College Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the career of Sue Payne with a dinner Saturday evening. More than 75 alumnae, friends, family and colleagues came together to honor Payne for an accomplished 40-year career. Smith College Director of Athletics Kristin Hughes presented Payne with a Smith College commemorative chair. Words of appreciation were delivered by guests including Bob Cacchione, Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) founder and executive director, Tracy Farnham, the former equestrian coach at UMass and Payne’s students from graduating classes 1973 through 2019.

St. Andrews IHSA Western National Champions Send Holiday Packages to US Troops

Laurinburg, N.C. – Nov. 21, 2017 – The two-time Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Western National Champion team along with the IHSA Hunt Seat team and members of their Intercollegiate Dressage team, staff and coaches gathered Nov. 15 at the Avinger Auditorium on the St. Andrews University campus for a special event. Peggy McElveen, director of the St. Andrews Equestrian Center and Carla Wennberg, IHSA Western head coach, led the group in assembling holiday packages to ship to U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa.
