Gladys, Va.- May 4, 2024 - The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) is pleased to announce that the mare known as Casey from Cazenovia College was posthumously inducted into the IHSA Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place during the National Championship at Tryon International Equestrian Center on Saturday, May 4. The IHSA Hall of Fame inducted its first members in 2020, and the second class includes coaches, founders, riders and horses.
Case In Point, or “Casey,” arrived at the Cazenovia College equestrian program in 1997 from donor Gary Moose of Metzville, New York. The 16.3-hand Thoroughbred mare had shown in the adult and green conformation hunters before joining the college.
Liz Pinto, former assistant coach for the IHSA team at Cazenovia and Cazenovia graduate (2002), knew the mare well. Casey participated in team practices, gave lessons and some summers, went out on lease.
“She was pretty perfect, a favorite,” said Pinto. “Everybody wanted to ride her.”
Competing in classes from walk/trot through the Cacchione Cup, Casey competed in six IHSA National Championships and was named “Horse of the Show” in 2001 at the Atlanta Nationals.
“She was so versatile over the years and competed in so many locations, and did all the jobs,” said Pinto. “She was just very reliable–a good draw, in any class they needed her to go in; always dependable.”
Casey retired from work in 2007 and lived at Cazenovia until her passing in 2009.
