2018 IHSA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNS NAMED
Apr 23, 2018
Fairfield, Conn. — April 23, 2018—The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) selected two members out of 22 applicants for the 2018 IHSA National Championship Candid Photography Internship. Lisa Giris and Madison Dempster will travel to Nationals May 3–6 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to capture the action behind the scenes. Each year the photography interns contribute images used in IHSA communications.
Lisa Giris hails from Long Island, New York, and is currently a senior studying Photography at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She rides in the Novice division for her team and has been riding horses since she was 8. Along with winning a spot in the Candid Photography Internship program, Giris has been chosen to complete a photo essay assignment for the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) "In Stride" magazine.
“I'm really excited just to have the opportunity to go to Nationals,” Giris said. “It's allowing me to combine my love of photography and horses. I'm also super excited to see my photos in In Stride.”
Madison Dempster of San Francisco, California, rides in the Novice Flat and Intermediate Over-Fences divisions for St. Lawrence University. Dempster has been riding since the second grade and began competing in high school when she joined the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA). She shows her two horses on the ‘AA’ circuit.
“Since this is my first year on a collegiate equestrian team, I am excited to experience Nationals from a very hands-on perspective,” Dempster said. “I think it is a unique and cool way to experience Nationals for the first time and expand my photography skills at the same time.”
The IHSA will feature the photos of Giris and Dempster in their communications throughout the upcoming year.
