THE CENTENARY UNIVERSITY IHSA TEAM
Centenary University’s IHSA is considered among the top-ranked teams in the nation. The team’s long list of accolades includes national championships (2009, 2011 and 2014) and reserve championships (2010, 2015, 2017). Centenary riders have nabbed the coveted Cacchione Cup multiple times (2009, 2011, 2013, and 2017).
 
Their IHSA team provides opportunities for both men and women riders to compete throughout the academic year. The 50-member team includes a range of levels, from beginners in Walk-Trot to Open—riders with years of experience.
 
Michael Dowling, Equine Studies associate professor and co-coach of the IHSA team, sees the Longines Masters ticket sales initiative as a way to introduce students to equestrian philanthropy while promoting show jumping as a spectator sport.

“We want to show them that giving back is part of the equestrian life,” Dowling said. “We’re trying to create an awareness of the equestrian community.”

Centenary’s program places an emphasis on real-world experiences. Graduates routinely find employment with top equestrian centers and equine businesses and organizations.

“Our IHSA program is unique because most students are going to find themselves immersed in the industry,” Dowling said. “They’re a diverse group, but as future trainers, veterinarians, show managers—they’re all in the field. We want them to become socially conscious.”
