About IHSA

In 1967, Fairleigh Dickinson University freshman Robert E. ‘Bob’ Cacchione wanted to make college riding available to all students, no matter their skill, gender, race or economic level. From one college rider with an idea, a national organization, the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association, was born.  The IHSA has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships and today serves 9,000+ students and 400+ colleges from around the United States and Canada.  Riders have the opportunity to compete in hunter seat, western horsemanship and reining competitions, from beginner to open levels.  Alumni of this organization continue to have an impact on today’s horse industry, like USEF four-time Equestrian of the Year, Beezie Madden (Southern Seminary), and US Olympic Show Jumping Gold medalist Peter Wylde (Tufts).
